How BIG Do Koi Get?

Koi can grow to 40”… Yes you read that right, over one meter in length. It is rare to see koi this large as they are generally kept in private collection of some of the most experienced and koi crazy hobbyist. Another place to view koi this large is in Japan where these koi are bred and expertly grown. The breeders and growers in Japan have generations of knowledge allowing them to grow these fish very quickly to full size.

HOW FAST DO THEY GROW?

A koi can become full grown at around 7-8 years old and in the right condition koi grow at an unbelievable rate within the first two years of their life.

TYPES OF KOI THAT GROW THE LARGEST?

Similar to different breeds in other animal species the size will depend on the genetics of the koi. Some varieties of koi grow larger than others. Generally koi with one solid color throughout their body AND Gosanke (referring some of the oldest and most popular varieties) grow to be the largest.
